He Had Compassion

Morning devotion came from Matthew 9: 36-38

When he saw the crowds he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

Our day passed at Kkottongnae, a ministry for the abandoned managed by Korean nuns.  Sister Matthias shared with our group how much courage it takes to put faith in action.

As Jesus experienced when performing miracles, the crowds of desperate humanity grow quickly when acts of compassion occur. At the landfill turned residence for those who have no means of survival other than sorting trash and collecting items to recycle, the sisters do a monthly food distribution. Protection and security is needed. Although the sisters bring all the food they can, it is never enough.

But miracles happen. God puts abandoned men and women in their path. The sisters bring them to the village to nurse them back to help. Those who can return to their community return. Those who cannot stay with the sisters and turn into workers in God's harvest field, contributing as they are able to the life of the community.

God's compassion was evident at every turn today.

Peace,
Joyce
