Reiser Relief Haiti – Day 1, October 12, 2015

Reiser Relief Haiti – Day 1, October 12, 2015
This morning started very early with the group meeting at the Minneapolis airport at 4:30 AM. We each had a suitcase packed to the brim with supplies for the schools, orphanages, and other organizations. Some of them were over the 50 pound weight restriction, so it was a game of which-suitcase-still-has-room. It may have looked like chaos to others, but we knew what we were doing.
All checked in and then all we had to do was get on the airplane and go. We arrived in Haiti at about 3:00, EST. The first thing that was immediately apparent was the 95 degree heat. The airport in Haiti was another scene of chaos as we gathered all our luggage and had to try to make our way to the “tap tap”, which is an open-air van surrounded by the a metal cage. We all piled in to the tap tap and made our way to the Reiser Relief guest house. It’s a beautiful, brightly colored home with comfy dorm type bedrooms. The kitchen is modern and clean, and the best part is that a meal was waiting for us – shepherd’s pie. There are three ladies who will cook and clean for us this week – Yay!
Our big adventure of the day was to visit the local hotel just down the street. They have an outdoor pool and bar area, that was just the cooling relief needed. Tomorrow is our first big day – delivering water to City Soleil. That will be a very eye opening experience for all. We’re all very tired and excited for what God has in store for us!
